Mumbai actress alleges sexual assault in south Delhi hotel
NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old actress, who also owns a production house in Mumbai, complained of sexual assault by a music composer at a hotel room in Greater Kailash, south Delhi, on Thursday.
The accused, Ankur Sharma, has been arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. Sources said he stays in Dwarka, southwest Delhi. A chargesheet will be filed within 20 days, a senior cop said. Police received a call from the actress around 11am. In her complaint, the woman said she had come to Delhi two days ago to clinch business deals and meet people in connection with work.
Sharma allegedly came to her room on Thursday morning for a meeting to finalize the next production venture. The accused started misbehaving and groped her, she alleged.
“When she objected to his advances, he tried to placate her initially but turned aggressive later. He forced himself on her,” an officer quoted her complaint.
The hotel authorities intervened after the woman raised the alarm. Cops arrived soon and took the woman for a medical examination. The accused was detained but he denied the allegations. He told cops that they had met before at a dance festival in Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh.
The woman’s statement was recorded verbatim by women police officers and NGO counsellors and a case of sexual assault (376 IPC) and molestation (354 IPC) was registered and a team led by SHO Sandeep Ghai arrested the accused. He was produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Police are analysing CCTV footage of the hotel. They have collected the DNA samples of the accused and will be sending it to the CFSL so that it can be compared with the samples collected from the woman. The hotel staff will be questioned and may be listed as witnesses.
